Self Portrait: The Seasons of My Life.
This self-portrait takes the form of a sun.
The sculpture is dimmable. It rises and sets, moving through light and shadow. A cycle rather than a static image.
From the sun’s rays emerge symbolic elements that mark formative chapters: transition, spirituality, creativity, music, celebration, discipline, home. Each object functions as a personal marker rather than decoration. Together they form a constellation of identity.
The butterfly signals metamorphosis.
The lotus, inner life.
A gift refers to my work in creating personal art.
The guitar introduces movement and rebellion.
A Christmas tree acknowledges celebrations that were once absent from my upbringing.
Cutlery honours cooking as ritual and gathering.
An anchor speaks to self-built foundation.
The stork refers to The Hague, my hometown.
A camera to memory.
A cloud to imagination.
A heart line to love as axis.
At its core, the work reflects on cycles. On becoming. On constructing one’s own centre.
The installation was exhibited in a former WWII bunker, a location tied to my formative years. Presenting this work there created a layered dialogue between personal history and architectural memory.
